Nick Broomfield is the newest name to have joined the Gorgeous roster. The critically acclaimed filmmaker is best known for his documentaries ‘Kurt and Courtney’ and ‘Death of a Serial Killer’. His works stand apart from the crowd with their reflexive style. Yes, they not only explore the film’s subjects but also the art of filmmaking. Broomfield appears in most of them. The whole new generation of documentary filmmakers like Michael Moore, Morgan Spurlock and Louis Theroux have been influenced by him.
Broomfield’s latest film ‘Battle of Hathilda’ will debut in the UK today. It represents the events that led to the November 19, 2005 shooting of 24 Iraqi civilians by U.S. marines. Before this venture of his, Broomfield had directed Channel 4 drama ‘Ghosts’ which was based on the 2004 drowning of two dozen Chinese immigrant cockle pickers at Morecambe Bay in North West England.
Gorgeous M.D. Paul Rothwell says, “I am in awe of Broomfield’s works. But now he s recognized more as a filmmaker than just a documentary maker. This is the reason why commercials have started appealing to him more.”
