Dexterous Hands: Audi Quattro Ad Campaign
Posted in Advertising, Advertising Campaign, Print Advertising, Television Advertising on 20 September 2008

My father always tells me, “A person can make his destiny with his own hands”. Well,
I m still in process of shaping mine but here I came across a wonderful ad campaign by Audi for its new release Quattro’s road handling system. The brainhand (in this case I wont say brainchild :D) behind the campaign is London’s BBH. The latter came up with print ads and a TVC which juice up a mundane topic like road grip technology by creatively employing objects like a slippery fish, a frog, hammer, crumpling paper, a sponge, an egg, soap, a small bird, a cricket ball & a bowling ball and hands (ofcourse!) in the execution of ad(s). The message is driven home effectively with the punchline: “Independent grip, intelligently applied”. Before you watch the ad film here are some prints and the credits for this entire campaign.

Oouch…that Electrical Socket: Electricity Can Be Deadly!
Posted in Advertising, Advertising & Services, Advertising Agency, Advertising Campaign, Print Advertising on 13 September 2008

Electricity can be dangerous! The print adverts Tarantula, Cobra and Bear done for EPCOR says so. The latter is a company that looks after the electricity requirements of people in parts of Canada and United Sates. It launched a public safety ad campaign two years back to raise awareness levels among people about the dangers of being casual with electrical sockets and devices. Thus the adverts show dangerous animals of North American region with electrical sockets covering their face. The intelligent use of such vicious animals instantly gets the message across viewers. This simple and effective execution of ads makes this campaign relevant till date. The campaign was done by creative agency MacLaren McCann.

Would have been better if here the agency used a rattle snake instead of cobra for the geographical distribution of former is more in US than the latter! Anyway, here is the third ad:

Animal Activism on Street: Lush Cosmetic’s Anti-Shark-Finning Campaign
Posted in Advertising & Services, Advertising Campaign on 9 September 2008

Getting so close to reality on streets is the latest offering from animal activists that are adding new dimensions to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) ads for environmental issues. Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics- a company that produces organic cosmetic and beauty products have collaborated with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The latter was formally incorporated in 1981 in the state of Oregon (United States) and works for conserving shark populations across the world. Together these two produced an at-your-face; bold and hard-hitting campaign a few days ago. The creative execution of the campaign involved participation by Lush employee and performance artist Alice Newstead who got her skin pierced with shark hooks. She then chose to be suspended from the window’s ceiling inside the Lush’s Regent Street shop (London, UK).

This gory illustration was done to remind people how gruesome the fight for survival is for these marine creatures. In wild, no body can outrun a shark’s ferocity but man has a penchant for killing these magnificent fishes for things such as shark fin soup! Lush Cosmetics has created a Shark Fin Soap exclusively for this campaign. The soap made up of seaweed extracts and a cardboard shark fin, is being advertised along with this message to save the sharks. The company will churn out exactly the same number of soaps as are the number of victim sharks killed by humans. It has announced to forward the proceeds of sales from this soap to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The video shows the progress of the campaign.

Together they have created a pair of sunglasses special for their NO VISION quality. The campaign for the company was designed by UbachsWisbrun JWT Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Hidden in the vast array of normal sunglasses were the pair of these special no vision sunglasses which when accidently tried upon by the customer will leave him/her with that insecure feeling of losing one’s sight. The purpose of this activity is to raise awareness among people and the price tag reveals about the SpecSavers’ sponsorship of KNGF Guidedogs. OOH by Books & Beyond
Posted in Advertising, Advertising & Promotion, Advertising Campaign on 29 August 2008

A lot if happening in the OOH (Out of Home) advertising front. It seems anyone wants to grab maximum attention by coming up with innovative ideas in the space on and above streets. Now look at these mega fabricated books on pole kiosks…aren’t they more interesting to look at than a yellow pages ad on a new book store? Books & Beyond has come up with such innovative outdoors. It is a new vertical by Spencer’s Retail and offers an amazing range of books. This is not all the store also sells toys, stationary and gift items. Music lovers can also visit the store for selected music and home videos from Music World.

The first Books & Beyond store was launched in Megacity Mall Gurgaon in 2007. Well I m definitely going to visit the store when it opens in Delhi as Books & Beyond is now about to launch many stores across the country to expand its base among book lovers and readers.

Conscious Packaging or Conscious Exposing?
Posted in Advertising, Advertising & Promotion, Advertising Campaign, Advertising Company on 29 August 2008

The Lush – fresh handmade cosmetics company believes in minimalism it seems! The company’s philosophy of “Conscious Packaging” includes packaging of materials/ products on a strictly necessary basis. In this age where a lot of waste is being generated only by packaging discards itself, the philosophy sure looks great! But how to tell this to your consumers? So, Lush came up with this advertising in aprons campaign where in employees (permanent or hired, I’m not sure on that!) wear only aprons during their duty time! That’s why you see the naked bums of young ladies in the photo above. When I first saw It I thought the store is following the footsteps of Comfort’s nudist ad campaign. But I was wrong! Because the company believes everything else is superfluous so its employees must wear the bare necessary clothing rather packaging to promote this new idea! Wow!

Then why is this cosmetics company (that says “B never too busy to be Beautiful”) there in existence at the first place! For haven’t we heard beauty is skin deep? And most of us know these soaps, lotions and crèmes just happen to beautify you superfluously and not within! Perhaps the company does need a good creative lead to advertise in a non-clichéd manner for propagating this philosophy. These days, it seems people just need slightest reason to drop their clothes for advertising purposes.huh!
