Tide rests at the foot of Columbia

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Doing artistic prints is a challenge which Dentsu, Beijing (China) likes to take upon itself. The agency’s print adverts for Columbia sportswear reflect its zeal to produce good work. These ads are titled: Desert & Ocean. Both are well executed. I have gone for trekking and hiking and other trips but never thought that my shoes actually face the most of my journey! The products strength and endurance get displayed in the two advertisements. With Columbia shoes nothing can spoil your adventure trip/ journey because “Tide rests at the foot of Columbia”! :D Wouldn’t you like to know the names of those behind these lovely prints? Well, the art director is Afflatus Dang and copywriter is Monkey Q.

HELP HER! Remove the Rope: Vimochan Development Society OOH

Monday, July 28th, 2008

She is a dowry victim-abused and battered. “Help her! Be her voice. Each day, some twenty Indian women are tortured, stabbed, hung or burned. That s over 7000 dowry deaths per year!” Since, the victim has no voice, who will come forward to help her? YOU! This message hits you across your face when you see the OOH done by Bhadra Communications (Bangalore, India) for Vimochan Development Society.
The Indian society is still suffocating with evils like caste system and dowry. The latter takes a toll on the country’s female population- a major % of which still goes on enduring atrocities at the hand of their in-laws in this modern age. The scenario and facts are heartening. But you can make a difference. The body copy of the poster ad says, “You can help, by speaking out against abuse when you encounter it.”
The campaign is done innovatively to make the best possible use of OOH communication to highlight the plight of Indian women subjected horrors of mental and physical abuse. To make this campaign widespread, the interactive creative is hung in public places. This kind of at-you-face strategy helps in engraving such media messages on the psyche of common man. When the rope is removed by any viewer, the actual message gets revealed.

One can find the visual dramatization of dowry deaths (the interactive creative) on car door handles, tea-bag tags, bike handlebars, public transportation, on benches in a park and the likes. Bhadra Communications certainly deserves a round of applause for its brilliant and creative advertising but the true reward would be, when there is a positive change in the grim situation of dowry victims, as a result of this OOH campaign.

No One Can Take Away A Delicious Meal From You!

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Rarely does one comes across an advertisement from a restaurant which does not brags about the delicacies it serves! And, I think, this makes the print adverts of Jacaré Grill absolutely fantastic! Done by agency Leo Burnett the posters are titled: Doctor, Robber and Judge. All the three are hilariously well executed- the graphics and the color scheme (old- burnt out look) are attention grabbers. To top it all, the funny messages written comic-style (within bubbles).

Brazil’s Jacaré Grill is a renowned eating joint which has star reviews under its belt, by NY times and likes. Now, the restaurant will get more popular because of its ace advertising campaign. Just call up your friends or family members and chillax; have some fun-time with your loved ones and when asked for a hefty bill just remember, “The only thing they can’t take away from you is a delicious meal!” ;)

Prints that Inspire You for a Good Cause

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

What happens when creativity and pen-art combines with a good cause? The result is a brilliant advertising campaign by Sports Association for the Handicapped. The latter’s campaign comprise 3 adverts: all neat, simple, refreshing and effective. Congratulations to the artist who drew these line-drawings. One of the posters seems to be done by using ink-press technique.
Even more touching are the slogans:
1) Yes, running is good for the heart,
2) One foot can change someone’s life. Remember Cinderella? AND
3) Exactly when can you help us? Ready, set, go!

Color Splash adverts from Havaianas

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Feeling depressed? Then add some color to your feet. Pep up yourself with some color therapy and there’s a lot to choose from! The color splash, big bang print adverts from Havaianas are simply refreshing. The company is known for its out-of-the box guerilla marketing so far. This time picking up print as the medium and using the services of agency AlmapBBDO (São Paulo, Brazil) Havaianas has again made a very colorful statement about their comfortable footwear.

To me these prints bring so much joy (as I simply enjoy colors) that I can imagine so many good things seeing these adverts!! (You know what they say- synaesthesia). So, I’m definitely going to buy one of these. While you guys read the credits and hey you do want to know the tagline (isn’t it?) – “Your feet in heaven: semi-naked, surrounded with colors”. Splash Splash! :D

Colorful Touch to a gruesome fact: Ads from Malteser Ambulance Service

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Life becomes fragmented for those who suffer the aftereffects of drunken driving- crushed spines, broken bones, skull fractures and paraplegia. The fact is gruesome and painful enough to experience. But it has been well represented in form of a colorful collage. The adverts of Don’t Drink & Drive Campaign from Malteser Ambulance Service are neat, simple and effective. The work is done by none other than ace-advertising agency, Ogilvy & Mather (Alemanha).

Some might find these ads a bit too loud (in terms of color scheme) for such a message but I think, these adverts are beautifully executed. You just need to absorb the seriousness of the message and protect yourself. So, if you booze on a party call a cab but don’t drink and drive!

Appealing the Humanitarian in You: WFP Ad Campaign.

Friday, July 25th, 2008

When was the last time you donated some of your belongings or did charity? In this world of ours there’s a grand canyon between the haves and the have-nots of the society! It’s in our hands the lucky ones to do something for those who are living in extreme poverty. Their penury leaves them malnourished and those badly affected are the children. Please spare a thought and join World Food Programme which urges you to be humane. Their recent ad campaign may seem to be a boring idea to the thick-skinned individuals stricken by materialism. But, sensitive people will surely be moved by these posters titled: Village, Well and Junkyard. After all, these are true images of the unequal ways prevalent in our society.

A Heed for Your Heart from Print adverts of Ramathibodi Hospital

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Jack in the box or a balloon anything can be a potential danger if you are a heart patient. An ad campaign consisting of two print adverts done by BBDO Bangkok for Ramathibodi Hospital are serious reminders of the fragile state of heart patients. The ads are well executed and the public safety concern hits you bang on your head! The tagline is equally interesting: “If your heart is week, anything can attack. Check it regularly”.

Trust me, every single word of this tagline is 100% true for my mother is a heart patient too and I have had my own share of troubles regarding her ailments. So, it’s my personal request to all you readers out there, take care of your heart. And my congratulations to Ramathibodi Hospital for a wonderful campaign.

Macabre Shines in Shinola Print Ads.

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

It seems shoe polish brands of the world love to advertise in B&W only. We all have seen the Cherry Blossom’s Famous adverts featuring Charlie Chaplin (real name Charles Chaplin) and now Shinola has done almost the same thing. Bring up the past by using some vintage posters for its advertising campaign which was handled by agency H2O Group Guatemala.
The print adverts titled: Mummy, Jack The Ripper and Frankenstein remind you of the famous German Expressionist Era when great classics like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Nosferatu (movies) were made. I do like these posters for their element of horror and eerie drama.

But beyond the visuals, the idea seems to get vague when it comes to message about the product. The tagline says, “Shining shoes for 80 years”. Good enough! But what is shining from 80 years? These characters? Or the shoes these characters wear (which of course are not shown)? Only thing we can figure out is these horrible looking men are lit from a light source placed below and if the advertisers are indirectly hinting at the source being their shoes then, that’s a rather silly notion. But hey, everything is fair in love, war and the world of advertising!

Behavioral ties: Animals and Human Brethen of this World!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Next time somebody tells you, “Don’t behave like an animal” don’t get offended! After all, “We’re not that different!” says so, the promotional campaign of Animal Planet series of Sky. These adverts reflect what is so elemental to us humans- our behavior. The latter has similarities with antics found in the animal kingdom.

Agency DDB has created this campaign. Although the idea is not a new one (esply. for Animal Planet) but it has been well executed. It is interesting to watch and find out with which animal species we share an archetypal connection in terms of relationships, brotherhood, fishing and even politics!
