Defying Geography: Amnesty International Switzerland’s advocacy advertising

Amnesty International Switzerland ad campaign

“It doesn’t happen here, but it happens now.”

Switzerland is the land of the free. It is also where the guardian of freedom, the United Nations, is found. Another protector, the World Health Organization, is also found here. Switzerland is the veritable unencumbered land. No chains. No blindfolds. No pain. The place has the unassailable image of magnanimity.

One would, therefore, think that the citizens here would not be knowledgeable enough of the outside world. Or that, maybe, the problems of the world are all confined inside the headquarters of the UN and the WHO, with the ordinary citizens just basking in freedom and prosperity sans qualms and concern. If that is the case, the new social advertising campaign from Amnesty International may just rock their boat.

Nurture a Baby Tree Nature’s Way: WWF T.V. Spot

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

“My Baby Tree” advert from WWF Indonesia is a beautiful video urging us to act as responsible beings and plant more trees. The concept is a heart touching one and the execution of the idea is equally warm and inspiring. To have your own baby tree is something as special as having your own kid.

The 160 seconds long social advert reminds us about the importance of rainforests and their existence in the long run means our own existence owing to the bio-diversity that can be found in them. Its our duty to save these rapidly shrinking green lungs of our Earth in the wake of Global Warming and rising carbon emissions.

Agency JWT Adforce (Jakarta) is responsible for creating such a sensitive TV spot.
Congratulations to the agency for their exemplary work and also for winning ACT Responsible, 2008 (1st Cannes Dove) for this Interactive advertisement.

ADESF: Lid Beholds 2055!

ADESF

Smoking kills! We all know that. Perhaps that’s why it’s so difficult to come up with innovative quit-smoking message. But, agency Neogama/BBH (São Paulo, Brazil) has a penchant for doing difficult works with a style! The poster ads it did for ADESF, the organization known for its anti-smoking campaigns, are a lucid example. The advert steals our attention with the tagline, “In 2055, yogurt lids will finally work.
Live to see it. Quit smoking”. The message is wrapped up in a simple satire for the smokers and chain smokers of the world. Now it’s for them to decide!
